When the Goal is Selling

When it comes to selling a house, appearance is everything. From pictures to showings, it truly makes a difference! It is worth the extra time and effort to have your home 'show ready' for many reasons. Bring our team in early so we can work together to make this a great experience for you as well as the new owner.

Keep your home tidy 24/7

When your home is being shown, it is important to keep it tidy and all of your possessions put away. You don’t always know who’s walking through your house, and it's best not to have your valuables in plain sight. Also, a tidy house just looks better. You want potential buyers to come in and see a beautiful dream home, not your clutter. We can help you develop a plan to be ready for last-minute showings. Keep toys to a minimum and clean as you go, it really makes a difference!

Help potential buyers see themselves in your home

When buyers walk into your home, you want them to picture what it will be like when they move in! While it is perfectly acceptable to have family photos in your home, don't let them be overwhelming. You want buyers to be able to imagine their things in your home.

Smell matters

Buyers can be turned away by an unpleasant odor. If necessary, clean your carpets and replace rugs. A soft scent, like lavender or fresh linen, will help your house to smell fresh and clean. Don't bring something into your home that has a strong chemical smell, or that gives the impression that you are trying to mask odors.

Don't try to hide your clutter

This is a great opportunity to clean! A great strategy is to make three stacks - donate, trash, and keep. Things you have not used but that are still in good shape, donate! The trash stack is just that - trash. The treasured items you would like to keep, if you will not need them until after the move, pack them. Just remember, whatever you keep and pack, you will need to move. Your home needs to be as clutter-free as possible. Clean, uncluttered homes sell much faster.

Consider your pets

Please remember that strangers in the house can make your pets uncomfortable. They might be protective of their turf, so please consider taking them somewhere else during showings if possible. If we have an open house, take your pet to a friend’s house for the day. If someone is coming over for a tour, take that opportunity to walk your dog. We can discuss options to make showings a pleasant experience for all!
